On December 28, 1835, Seminole warriors and Black Seminole allies attacked soldiers under Major Francis Dade here, starting the Second Seminole War. The 80-acre park, a National Historic Landmark, keeps pine flatwoods that look much as they did then. A visitor center has a small museum on the Seminole wars, and a nature trail of about 3,500 feet loops through the woods. About 2,000 people come to the reenactment each January. Entry is $3 per vehicle.
