About Detroit Historical Museum

The Detroit Historical Museum sits on Woodward Avenue in Midtown, within the Cultural Center Historic District. Its galleries trace the region's history across many periods, including reconstructed old-city streets, 19th-century shops, automotive manufacturing, and the fur trade of the 1700s. Permanent displays cover Detroit's music heritage, and rotating exhibitions explore the city's culture and development. It is one of two museums run by the Detroit Historical Society, the other being the Dossin Great Lakes Museum on Belle Isle.
