About Dighton Rock

Dighton Rock is a 40-ton sandstone boulder covered with petroglyphs: lines, geometric shapes and figures of people whose makers are still argued over. It sat in the bed of the Taunton River until 1963, when the state lifted it out for safekeeping and set it in a museum in Dighton Rock State Park. The 85-acre park also has shaded picnic spots by the river, walking trails, fishing and canoeing, and free parking. The museum keeps short summer hours, so call (508) 644-5522 to confirm or to book a visit.
