About Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site

This National Park Service site preserves a house once rented by the American writer Edgar Allan Poe in Philadelphia's Spring Garden neighborhood. Poe lived in several Philadelphia homes during his years in the city, and this is the only one still standing. Visitors can tour the modest home, see the basement that some link to his story The Black Cat, and view rooms furnished to suggest how they looked during Poe's time there. The site is about a mile from Independence Hall. At the time of the NPS page's last update, it was closed for a utilities improvement project.
