This segment forms part of a longer heritage trail that stretches across Connecticut. The paved route welcomes hikers, bikers, joggers, skaters, and cross-country skiers. It follows the course of a waterway that operated in the early nineteenth century, and visitors can still spot traces such as old retaining walls and lock remnants. The scenery shifts with the seasons, from spring wetland plants to colorful autumn foliage and quiet winter rock seeps. A restored lock, Lock 12, sits in Cheshire along the way.
