Why you should go…
The Fick Fossil and History Museum in Oakley, Kansas grew out of a fossil collection donated to the city by Ernest and Vi Fick in 1972. Its holdings include an early mosasaur skull, a 30-foot Tylosaurus and a 15-foot Xiphactinus recovered from western Kansas rock formations. The museum also displays an original sod house, replicas of the town's first depot and general store, and more than 1,000 historical photographs. Admission is free.
