The visitor center serves Fort Frederica National Monument on St. Simons Island in Georgia. The monument marks a British settlement that James Oglethorpe founded in 1736 to guard the English colonies against Spanish forces based in Florida. Its story centers on the War of Jenkins' Ear, which lasted from 1739 to 1748, and on the British troops who repelled a Spanish invasion. Archaeologists have also reconstructed the daily lives of the roughly 1,000 people who once lived there. Visitors can see the Barracks ruin, one of the few structures still standing above ground. The park's official site lists its address, a phone line, and programs such as Junior Ranger activities and archaeology camps.
