Jekyll Island is a barrier island owned by the State of Georgia and run as a state park, reached by a causeway where every vehicle pays a parking fee. You get 8 miles of wide, flat beaches on the east shore, including Driftwood Beach with its boneyard of tree roots, and more than 24 miles of paths and trails for biking. Guided trolley tours cover the historic district and its late 1800s and early 1900s buildings. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center and Summer Waves Water Park fill out a stay.
