230 Barnard Street, Savannah, GA 31401 · Savannah, GA
This downtown Savannah house sits on Orleans Square and shows how people lived in the city in the mid-1800s, both wealthy households and the workers who served them. Preservationist Alida Harper Fowlkes bought the property in 1939 and filled its rooms with furnishings and art over four decades. Guided tours cover her role in saving Savannah's historic buildings, and a separate exhibit looks at the American Revolution in Georgia. The house remains a headquarters for the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Georgia.
