Four Mile Old West Town, just outside Custer, South Dakota, began as an army stockade camp and later a stagecoach stop four miles from Custer. The museum, opened in 1994, recreates the townsite with more than 50 buildings and original artifacts from the Black Hills gold rush era. Visitors can take a self-guided or audio tour and watch a comic reenactment covering the town's history and General Custer.
