Founded in 1939 through a partnership between the federal government and the city of Rapid City, the Sioux Indian Museum is operated by the U.S. Department of the Interior's Indian Arts and Crafts Board and located inside the Journey Museum complex. It holds one of the nation's finest collections of Lakota art alongside changing exhibitions of contemporary Native artists, most recently featuring work by S.D. Nelson and Monty Little. The museum also promotes authentic Indian arts and crafts through educational programs and sales exhibitions.
