The Grand Village was the main ceremonial center of the Natchez people from 1682 until 1730, when war with the French forced them to leave. The 128-acre state site on St. Catherine Creek has three mounds first built around 1200; the Great Sun's Mound and the Temple Mound have been rebuilt to their original size. A visitor center shows artifacts from the excavations and sells Native American crafts, and a nature trail loops through the woods. It is a National Historic Landmark, and admission and parking are free.
