Griffith Park Ranger Station, Crystal Springs Drive · Los Angeles, CA
Griffith Park covers more than 4,200 acres of hills and canyons at the east end of the Santa Monica Mountains, between Los Feliz Boulevard and the Ventura Freeway. Griffith J. Griffith gave the first 3,015 acres to Los Angeles as a Christmas gift on December 16, 1896. Inside are Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles Zoo, the Autry Museum of the American West, the Greek Theatre and Travel Town, plus miles of hiking and horse trails. Elevations run from 384 to 1,625 feet, so many trails give views of the Hollywood Sign on Mount Lee.
