Historic Blakeley State Park covers more than 2,000 acres on the Tensaw River, where the town of Blakeley rivaled Mobile in the early 1800s and later vanished. On April 9, 1865, the same day as Lee's surrender, more than 16,000 soldiers fought the Battle of Fort Blakeley here, many of the Union troops African American, and Confederate breastworks still cross the park. More than 20 miles of trails serve hikers, bikers and riders, and boat cruises run into the delta. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for kids 6 to 12; veterans and active military get in free.
