Walk the walls of a reconstructed 1723 French fort in downtown Mobile, with colonial artifacts inside and city views from the ramparts.
150 South Royal Street, Mobile, AL 36602 · Mobile, AL
The French began this brick fort in 1723 to guard Mobile, and under British and Spanish rule it was called Fort Charlotte. The replica opened in 1976 and rebuilds about one-third of the fort at four-fifths scale. Inside are artifacts from colonial Mobile, and you can walk atop the walls for views of the skyline. Your ticket to the History Museum of Mobile, $14 for adults, covers the fort, and remnants of the original walls are visible in Mardi Gras Park.
