Homestead National Historical Park
8523 W State Hwy 4 · Beatrice, NE
Why you should go…
This National Park Service site marks the Homestead Act of 1862, which let settlers claim up to 160 acres of federal land. The Heritage Center, with a roofline shaped like a plow cutting through sod, holds exhibits on how the law changed immigration, farming and Native tribes. Outside you can see the 1867 Palmer-Epard Cabin, visit the brick Freeman School that taught pupils from 1872 to 1967, and walk about 2.7 miles of trails through 100 acres of restored tallgrass prairie.

Good to know
General sightseeing guidance
Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.
The forecast is part of the ticket
Haze, low cloud, and rain flatten a view. Clear-day visits are worth rearranging your plans for.
Golden hour sells out first
Sunset slots at observation decks and cruises are the first to go, so book those further ahead.
Dress a layer warmer
It is always breezier up high and out on the water than it feels at street level.
Timed entry is common
Plenty of landmarks release tickets in windows rather than at the door, so check before you walk over.
