214 Royal St · New Orleans, LA
Antonio Monteleone, a Sicilian immigrant, bought a hotel on Royal Street in 1886, and the Monteleone is still family-owned. Its Beaux-Arts building is the only high-rise in the interior French Quarter, with 570 rooms including themed Literary Suites. Even if you are not staying, you can take a seat at the Carousel Bar, which has turned slowly since 1949. Guests also get a heated rooftop pool and Criollo, a restaurant serving Gulf and Louisiana dishes.
