Hubbard Glacier
Head of Disenchantment Bay, north of Yakutat · Yakutat, AK
Why you should go…
Hubbard Glacier flows 76 miles from its source to the sea at Disenchantment Bay, near Yakutat, inside Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. Its face is more than six miles wide and up to 400 feet high where it meets the water, and it regularly calves icebergs as tall as a ten-story building. Most visitors see it from cruise ships, which in good conditions can come within about half a mile of the ice. Hubbard is advancing and has dammed nearby Russell Fjord in the past.
