About Hubbardton Battlefield

This Vermont state historic site marks a July 1777 clash in which American troops, drawn largely from Vermont, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, held off pursuing British and German forces. Although the British won the field, the encounter is widely regarded as a strategic American success in the 1777 Northern Campaign. The grounds include a marble battle monument from 1859, an early effort by local residents to commemorate a Revolutionary War site. The state has owned and run the battlefield since 1937. Visitors can tour the museum, walk the trails, and view open meadows and distant mountain ranges much as they looked in 1777.
