American troops fortified this rocky peninsula on the east shore of Lake Champlain from July 1776 to July 1777 to stop a British invasion from Canada. Today six miles of trails pass the archaeological remains of blockhouses, a hospital and gun batteries, and the 1.6-mile Baldwin Trail is wheelchair accessible. The museum shows timbers from the Great Bridge and a 3,000-pound cannon cast in 1690 and raised from the lake. Adults pay $8 and children 6 to 16 pay $1.
