Louisiana's oldest state park site, opened in 1934, tells the story of the Acadian and Creole people of the Bayou Teche country, the setting of Longfellow's 1847 poem Evangeline. The main house, Maison Olivier, is a raised Creole cottage built around 1815 and a National Historic Landmark. A footbridge leads to a reproduction Acadian farmstead on the bayou with a home, outdoor kitchen, bread oven and barn. Admission is $6, and the site is open daily 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
