Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves

1712 Lost River Road · North Woodstock, NH

Why you should go…

Lost River takes its name from the brook that disappears below the surface of a narrow, steep-walled glacial gorge filled with huge granite blocks. A self-guided boardwalk loop of about a mile, with more than 1,000 stairs, takes you past waterfalls and through 11 boulder caves, each of which can be bypassed. The tightest, the Lemon Squeezer, is 16 inches wide. The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests bought the gorge in 1912 and still owns it.
