Mammoth Hot Springs is a complex of hot springs on a hill of travertine in the north of Yellowstone National Park. You walk on boardwalks above the steaming terraces, which change constantly, or take the one-mile Upper Terrace Drive to features like Orange Spring Mound. The colors in the springs come from thermophiles. Next door, the red-roofed buildings of Fort Yellowstone include the Albright Visitor Center, and elk are common in the area.
