The Nez Perce (Nee-Me-Poo) National Historic Trail traces the 1,170-mile route the non-treaty Nez Perce traveled while fleeing the U.S. Army from June to October 1877, crossing Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Wyoming. The Trust for the Nez Perce Trail is a nonprofit stewardship partner to the Forest Service, which administers the trail, and it supports preservation, interpretation and rural tourism along the route. Travelers can follow driving tours and visit interpretive sites such as the Nez Perce National Historical Park in Lapwai, ID and Big Hole National Battlefield in Wisdom, MT.
