Mammoth Mountain Ski Area is a ski resort on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada within Inyo National Forest, founded by Dave McCoy in 1942 and now owned by Alterra Mountain Company. It covers 3,500 acres with 178 trails and 24 lifts, receiving an average of 400 inches of snow a season from November into spring. In summer the resort operates the Mammoth Bike Park, a golf course and a via ferrata climbing route.
