Yosemite covers 1,187 square miles of the Sierra Nevada, and almost 95 percent of it is wilderness. Most visitors start in Yosemite Valley, reachable by car all year, for its waterfalls, meadows and granite cliffs such as Half Dome. From there, drive up to Glacier Point for the view over the valley, or south to the Mariposa Grove and its more than 500 mature giant sequoias. Waterfalls run strongest in spring with the snowmelt. No entry reservation is needed in 2026; the fee is $35 per vehicle or $20 per person for seven days.
