About Museum of North Carolina Minerals

Located at Milepost 331 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, this National Park Service visitor center and museum explains the mineral wealth of the area and its long mining past. Interactive displays cover how the Blue Ridge Mountains formed and how mining has developed over roughly three thousand years. The museum is open year-round, so it works as a stop in any season. Visitors have no food or lodging on site, but nearby camping is available at Linville Falls to the north or Crabtree Falls to the south. The site also connects to the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, where reenactors retell the Overmountain Men's crossing each September.
