Why you should go…
The Museum of the Fur Trade, located three miles east of Chadron, Nebraska, opened in 1955 on the site of the original Bordeaux Trading Post, founded by James Bordeaux in 1837 and reconstructed on the grounds in 1960. The museum is dedicated to the history of the North American fur trade and displays over 6,000 original artifacts, including a point blanket from 1775 and firearms once owned by Kit Carson and Tecumseh. It is open daily from May 1 through October 31 and by appointment only the rest of the year.
