About Ox Hill Battlefield Park

Ox Hill Battlefield Park preserves a few acres of ground where a Civil War clash was fought on September 1, 1862. Fighting took place during a severe thunderstorm, and the battle ended in a stalemate at nightfall after about two hours. Visitors can walk the trails, read interpretive kiosks that explain the battle and the soldiers who were wounded here, and see two granite memorials honoring the Union generals killed in the fighting. The park sits in a heavily developed area, so it offers a quiet place to reflect. Re-enactment and living history groups sometimes hold events on site. Parking is limited, and visitors can also leave a car at the Herrity Building and walk roughly fifteen minutes.
