About Ellanor C. Lawrence Park

This nature park in western Fairfax County covers about 650 acres and holds a record of human use stretching back roughly 8,000 years. Its habitats include woodlands, waterways, open meadows, and a pond. The Walney Visitor Center teaches visitors about the natural and cultural past of the land, displays live reptiles and amphibians, and offers hands-on activities for children. Outdoors, guests can wander pollinator gardens, a historic kitchen garden, and preserved old structures. Earlier, the land was worked by a few local families as farmland, a homestead, and an estate before the county took it over as a public nature park.
