About Rock Eagle Effigy Mound

Rock Eagle is a stone effigy of a prone bird, built of milky quartz rocks about 2,000 years ago and standing eight feet high at the breast. It measures roughly 102 by 120 feet. A granite tower built in the 1930s gives a view from above, and a paved path with signs circles the fenced mound. The University of Georgia runs the site as part of the Rock Eagle 4-H Center north of Eatonton, and visitors may see the mound free of charge.
