Salmon Ruins is an archaeological site two miles west of Bloomfield, New Mexico, built around 1090 CE by migrants from Chaco Canyon and containing 275 to 300 original rooms across three stories, a tower kiva and a great kiva. The San Juan County Museum at Salmon Ruins and Heritage Park displays pottery, jewelry and tools from the roughly 1.5 million artifacts recovered during 1970s excavations, plus interactive exhibits for children. Heritage Park includes reconstructed dwellings such as a sweatlodge, hogan, tipi and pithouse along a self guided trail, and the site is open daily.
