Two boys found Shenandoah Caverns in 1884 when they felt cold air rising from a quarry hole near the new railroad, and the cave opened to visitors in 1922. The guided tour lasts about an hour and covers a mile through 17 connected rooms, with named formations like the Diamond Cascade and Rainbow Lake. It is the only cave in Virginia with elevator access, and it stays at 54 degrees all year. Adult tickets are $34 and children 6 to 12 pay $16; a combo ticket adds American Celebration on Parade, a hall of retired parade floats.
