Visit Father Jacques Marquette's grave and the Museum of Ojibwa Culture at the 1671 Jesuit mission site near the Lake Huron shore.
500 N. State Street, St. Ignace, MI 49781 · St. Ignace, MI
Father Jacques Marquette founded a Jesuit mission here in 1671, and his remains were reburied beneath its chapel in 1677; a monument now marks the grave in Marquette Mission Park, a National Historic Landmark. An 1837 mission chapel moved to the site in 1954 houses the Museum of Ojibwa Culture, with indoor and outdoor exhibits on Ojibwa life and on Huron and Odawa migration. A replica Huron longhouse hosts evening talks with Elders, and a sculpture and clan park sits next door. The park is about 300 feet from Lake Huron.
