About
The Straits of Mackinac separate Michigan's Lower and Upper peninsulas, spanned by the Mackinac Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere. Mackinac Island bans cars, so visitors get around by horse-drawn carriage or bike to reach Fort Mackinac, Arch Rock and the Grand Hotel. On the Mackinaw City shore, Colonial Michilimackinac is a reconstructed 18th-century fort and fur trading village, and farther north in the Upper Peninsula, Tahquamenon Falls State Park near Paradise has one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi.
