SunWatch is a reconstructed Fort Ancient village on the Great Miami River in south Dayton, where about 250 people farmed and hunted for roughly 20 years inside a circular stockade. Archaeologists dug the site from 1971 to 1988 after the city planned a sewage plant here, and it opened as an open-air museum in 1988. You can walk into rebuilt houses, see the gardens and stand in the plaza whose posts seem to track the sun, which gives the site its name. It is a National Historic Landmark, and the interpretive center explains what the digs found.
