A preserved three-mile brick stretch of the early Lincoln Highway near Elkhorn, Nebraska.
Old Lincoln Highway between N 192nd & N 180th, Elkhorn · Elkhorn, NE
This roughly three-mile section of brick roadway near Elkhorn was once part of the Lincoln Highway, a privately backed effort from 1913 to build a paved, toll-free route across the country. The road was first mapped in 1913 to link Omaha and Elkhorn, then paved in 1920 as part of a statewide upgrade. In 1930 the main route moved to a shorter path, leaving this segment to serve local drivers. Today it stands as a well-kept example of early road building and is included on the National Register of Historic Places. A state historical marker commemorates it.
