Thorncrown Chapel

12968 Highway 62 W · Eureka Springs, AR

Why you should go…

Thorncrown Chapel is a glass and timber chapel in the Ozark woods about 1.5 miles west of Eureka Springs, designed by architect E. Fay Jones and built in 1980. It rises 48 feet into the trees, with 425 windows and more than 6,000 square feet of glass resting on over 100 tons of native stone. Inside, the forest surrounds you on every side. Jones kept every structural piece small enough for two men to carry through the woods, so the site was barely disturbed.

Good to know

General sightseeing guidance

Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.

  • The forecast is part of the ticket

Haze, low cloud, and rain flatten a view. Clear-day visits are worth rearranging your plans for.

  • Golden hour sells out first

Sunset slots at observation decks and cruises are the first to go, so book those further ahead.

  • Dress a layer warmer

It is always breezier up high and out on the water than it feels at street level.

  • Timed entry is common

Plenty of landmarks release tickets in windows rather than at the door, so check before you walk over.
