About Ball's Bluff Battlefield and National Cemetery

This regional park near Leesburg preserves the ground where a daylong Civil War clash took place in October 1861. Visitors can walk self-guided trails, follow brochures, and join guided tours on weekends during the warmer months. The park also holds a tiny stone-walled national cemetery, one of the smallest of its kind in the country, where most of the buried soldiers remain unidentified. Views of the bluff overlooking the Potomac are a highlight, and volunteer interpreters and a local friends group help share and protect the site.
