About Buescher State Park

Buescher State Park sits north of Smithville in Bastrop County, east of Austin and near its neighbor Bastrop State Park. Visitors can hike roughly six miles of wooded trails, including a route under tall loblolly pines, and see a large old cedar elm known as the Big Tree. Cyclists can ride most trails and a hilly scenic park road linking Buescher and Bastrop. The park's 30-acre lake offers fishing without a license, with gear available to borrow, and paddling. Camping ranges from electric and water-only sites to primitive walk-in sites, plus screened shelters and cabins. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the lake, dam, and historic group hall during the 1930s. Ranger programs, a Junior Ranger program, and a park store are also available.
