About Chippewa Lake Park

Chippewa Lake was an amusement park on Ohio's largest natural inland lake from the 1870s until it closed in 1978, and its abandoned rides stood rotting in the woods for decades. The Medina County Park District bought part of the site in 2020 and opened the Tumble Bug Trailhead on May 15, 2026, with parking, restrooms, a picnic shelter and a half-mile accessible gravel loop. The area around the old Ferris wheel is still closed and trespassers are cited. The Chippewa Lake Historical Society runs a museum on the corner of Longacre Lane and Lake Road, open summer Saturdays 10 a.m. to noon.
