Coney Island

Riegelmann Boardwalk off Surf Ave, between W 37th St and Brighton 15th St · Brooklyn, NY

Why you should go…

Coney Island is a seaside neighborhood in southern Brooklyn with a public beach and the 2.7-mile Riegelmann Boardwalk, completed in 1923. Two amusement parks, Luna Park and Deno's Wonder Wheel Amusement Park, sit by the boardwalk. The wooden Cyclone roller coaster dates to 1927 and the Wonder Wheel to 1920. You can also eat at the original Nathan's Famous, see sharks and sea lions at the New York Aquarium, or catch the Mermaid Parade and a Brooklyn Cyclones game.

Good to know

General attractions guidance

Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.

  • Book the time slot, not just the ticket

Timed entry is now the norm at big-draw attractions, and online tickets are often cheaper than the gate.

  • Grab the daily schedule on arrival

Feeding times, keeper talks, and shows run on a posted timetable that changes day to day.

  • The first hour is the quietest

Queues build through late morning and peak after lunch, so an early start buys you the shortest waits.

  • Budget past the ticket price

Parking, lockers, strollers, and food inside the gates are common extras worth planning for.
