Calvert Vaux Park covers about 85 acres on a peninsula facing Gravesend Bay, just north of Coney Island Creek in Brooklyn. Much of it was built from sand, soil and rock dug out for the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, and it is named for the architect who designed Central Park and Prospect Park with Frederick Law Olmsted. Today it has a restored waterfront with bay views and birds, six baseball diamonds, a soccer field, turf fields, basketball and bocce courts and a playground.
