Andersonville, GA
Housed in a turn-of-the-century brick and frame building on Andersonville's main street, this museum holds a notable collection gathered by its founder. Fifteen mannequins in Union and Confederate uniforms form the centerpiece, including drummer boy outfits and a rare Confederate South Carolina Zouave drummer uniform. Visitors can also see period revolvers, carbines, muskets, swords, and a captured Confederate national flag. Diaries from a cavalry captain who hunted John Wilkes Booth are displayed digitally, and the museum includes items from telegraph executive Thomas Eckert, among them a bonnet linked to Mary Surratt.
