About Elias Van Bunschooten House

Built in 1787 for a Dutch Reformed minister who also farmed and ran a mill, this house sits on Route 23 in Wantage. The Chinkchewunska Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution received the property in 1971 and restored it as a museum. Visitors can tour ten rooms filled with antiques from roughly 1787 to 1860, many donated by the original family, including clothing, quilts, furniture, paintings, and farm tools. A small library of about 900 volumes supports local history and genealogy research. The house and its outbuildings were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
