About Wawayanda State Park

Wawayanda State Park spreads over 34,350 acres of the New Jersey Highlands in Sussex and Passaic counties. It has about 60 miles of hiking trails, including a 20-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail. Spring-fed Wawayanda Lake, formed by glaciers, has a swimming beach and a boat launch. Three natural areas protect a 300-foot hemlock ravine, an Atlantic white cedar swamp and Bearfort Mountain, where Terrace Pond sits near the top at 1,380 feet and some rock outcrops give 360-degree views. Watch for red-shouldered hawks, barred owls and great blue herons.
