Evergreen is a historic house museum in north Baltimore, run by Johns Hopkins University as part of its university museums. The mansion sits on about 26 acres of gardens and woodland. Its collections of fine and decorative arts, rare books, and manuscripts were gathered by the Garrett family, Baltimore civic leaders active from the late 1870s into the early 1950s. The house was first built in 1858 and was later greatly enlarged and reshaped by the Garretts to display their varied holdings. Guided tours cover the family, the collections, and how the home changed from a country villa into a gathering place for musicians, writers, and artists. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
