2234 NW Thurman St · Portland, OR
The Freakybuttrue Peculiarium is a small museum-gallery on NW Thurman Street that mixes weird collections, original art by Colin Batty and Mike Wellins, cryptids, oddities and underground Portland history, all built for photos rather than jump scares. Visits run twenty minutes to two hours, the space is wheelchair accessible with no stairs, and the attached shop sells posters, postcards, books, edible insects and one-of-a-kind artwork. Recommended for ages about 10 and up. Open daily, 11 am to 6 pm Friday through Monday and noon to 6 pm Tuesday through Thursday; admission is $10, $7 on Tuesdays.
General museums guidance
Habits that pay off across this whole category, not rules for this one venue. Always check the official site for the specifics.
Check the special exhibition separately
Touring shows usually carry their own ticket and their own opening hours, listed apart from general admission.
Look for the free window
Many museums run community days, member evenings, or discounted late openings. It is worth a look before you pay full price.
Travel light through the door
Large bags and backpacks often have to go to a coat check, and lines for it move slowly at opening.
Weekday mornings beat weekend afternoons
School groups clear out by early afternoon midweek, while weekends stay busy from late morning on.
