Run by the City of Boca Raton, this nature center sits on a 20-acre coastal preserve between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can walk a boardwalk through coastal forest, climb a 40-foot observation tower for views of the barrier island, and wander a butterfly garden where many wild butterfly species appear through the year. The Ashley Trail leads to a shaded rest spot overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway. Outdoor aquariums hold native fish, resident sea turtles, and other marine animals. An onsite Florida Atlantic University gallery shows ongoing marine research, and the center runs turtle walks, hatchling releases, and school programs.
