The Wolf Den sits inside Mashamoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret, Connecticut. Legend says Israel Putnam, later a Revolutionary War major general, entered the den in 1742 and killed the last documented wolf in the colony. A plaque at the entrance tells the story. Nearby stand Table Rock, a flat stone shelf, and Indian Chair, a seat-shaped ledge. The park's trails pass these formations, and the state has owned the parcel since 1924.
